💡 The Big Idea

OGEA-102 is the Practitioner exam: 8 scenario questions, 90 minutes, open book, gradient-scored. It tests whether you can APPLY TOGAF to a situation — not recall definitions. Technique matters as much as knowledge.

Same standard, completely different exam.

  • ▸📖 OPEN BOOK — you can consult the TOGAF Standard (10th Edition) during the exam
  • ▸🧩 8 SCENARIO questions — a paragraph of situation, then "what should the architect do?"
  • ▸⏱️ 90 minutes — about 11 minutes per question; open book does not mean slow
  • ▸🎯 Pass mark 60% = 24 of a possible 40 points
  • ▸🧮 GRADIENT scoring: each question has one best answer (5 pts), one good answer (3 pts), one weak answer (1 pt), one distractor (0 pts)
  • ▸💡 There are no "select 2" or "fill the blank" items — every question is single-best-answer with partial credit

Work through gradient-scored scenario questions in the OGEA-102 style. After you answer, you see the points for EVERY option and why.

Scenario 1 / 8·Next step in the ADMScore: 0

You are the lead architect for Digital University Kerala. The Architecture Definition Document for the "student services" segment has been completed and validated against the Architecture Requirements Specification. Sponsors have approved it. The programme now needs to identify delivery projects, group work into increments, and confirm whether existing DUK solutions can be reused. Which ADM phase should you move into next, and what is the primary focus?

Pick the single best answer. OGEA-102 awards partial credit — you will see the points for every option.

Under time pressure, run the same routine on each question:

  • ▸1️⃣ Locate — which ADM phase / activity is the scenario in? What has already been completed?
  • ▸2️⃣ Identify the ask — next step? which technique? which governance action? which deliverable?
  • ▸3️⃣ Eliminate the distractor (0 pts) — usually contradicts TOGAF outright, or is "do nothing / skip a phase / permanent waiver"
  • ▸4️⃣ Eliminate the weak answer (1 pt) — often right idea, wrong phase, or too extreme ("block everything", "restart Phase B")
  • ▸5️⃣ Choose between the top two — the BEST answer does what TOGAF actually prescribes AT THIS POINT; the GOOD answer is usually one step too early/late or too partial
  • ▸6️⃣ Only open the book to confirm a specific term or phase output — do not read chapters

Most OGEA-102 questions are variations on a handful of situations:

  • ▸➡️ "What is the next step?" — know the phase order and each phase's entry/exit criteria
  • ▸🧰 "Which technique applies?" — principles, stakeholder map, gap analysis, risk, readiness, capability-based planning
  • ▸⚖️ "A project can't comply" — dispensation (time-bound), compliance review, Architecture Contract
  • ▸👥 "A new/unhappy stakeholder appears" — update stakeholder map, feed concerns via Requirements Management, update Communications Plan
  • ▸📐 "Leadership wants a view at level X" — Strategic vs Segment vs Capability architecture; the right level of detail
  • ▸🔁 "Requirements changed mid-flight" — Requirements Management is continuous; assess impact, may trigger iteration or Phase H

The book is a safety net, not a study substitute:

  • ▸🔖 Know the STRUCTURE of the Standard so you can jump to the right chapter (ADM phases, Techniques, Content, Governance, Capability)
  • ▸⏱️ Budget ~1–2 lookups per question max — 11 minutes disappears fast
  • ▸📋 The phase objective/inputs/outputs lists and the Techniques chapter are the highest-value pages to be familiar with
  • ▸🚫 If you are reading the book to LEARN a concept during the exam, you are already losing — the open book confirms, it does not teach
